It is a perfect teen adventure for me. The world on which Neal Shusterman created in this book is fascinating. I am captivated by how this world works because there are no deaths! Humanity has conquered all things. This book is pure genius. It gives us an idea or a glimpse of what might occur in the future if we attain immortality. Truly not the best concept, killing people to balance out the population but this book gave us a possible reality if this situation might occur and how people learn to live in this perfect world knowing that it would come to a heavy price.
I am also captivated about how ‘change’ is the most permanent happenstance in humanity, in the world. Especially how morality changes in the process of becoming this world they created and they were not the same being they once were.
Absolutely one of my favorite books! I highly recommend this book especially to those who had fun reading Mortal Instruments or Hunger Games kind of books! This is such a unique well-written story. The characters are great and no interaction nor page is boring. Can’t wait to read the second book!
Hello, lovelies! It’s been a week since I’ve posted. This will be a short journal.
It’s been a hard week for me. My pet cat died and I didn’t handle it well. She was a few weeks old when we rescued her from the storm. She was in a box, alone. Her name was ‘Ulan’ a Tagalog term meaning rain in English.
I love her so much. No days come by that I don’t miss her. I always believe that all animals go to heaven so that I won’t get sad when an animal dies especially in unfortunate ways.
To Ulan, I hope you’re doing great. When it rains, it reminds me of you. You made rain a bittersweet memory of you.
I really love this book. It’s about a world without hunger, disease, or death; basically, they conquered immortality. Due to an increasing population “Scythes” are the ones who can take life to control the size of the population. It’s a very interesting concept because it makes you think of “What if we did conquer death. Must we kill? Sacrifice?” I love that this story also comes with conscience and foreshadowing politics.
Even though i haven’t finished the book/series yet. I highly recommend it.
Hello, lovelies! I will share a topic that some of you might relate to; books are a luxury. For me, books are so expensive. I always take care of it, never drew a line, or fold its page as a sign of bookmark. It’s like a baby to me. I value a book because, for me, it is expensive.
I have a few reasons.
I don’t come from a family that buys stuff besides what is necessary. And for that, books are considered wants.
Books are so expensive here in the Philippines. A book’s minimum price is at Php 300. That sh*t is expensive. Most of the book I would love to read is at Php 400+. I know there are second-hand books, eBooks (some), blah blah blah. STILL EXPENSIVE!
Another thing, the place where I live have limited book stores and no public libraries to request a book!
Those are the main reasons why I consider a book a luxury and why I small number of reads within a year. Last year, my goal was two books a year. But this year my goal is ten. Thanks to hoarding and gifts from my family and friends.
Buying books isn’t normal in our family. I started reading when I was in 7th grade. It was introduced to me and I got addicted to it. When I said addicted, meaning I didn’t eat lunch for a week just to buy a book because I simply could not afford them. Good thing that I have friends that lend me books and helped me save money in a good way. I’m very thankful to them.
I love reading. I do. It delivers you to a different world. It also has the capability to change one’s life and it puts you into a new perspective. It’s an enlightenment. A gift to society.
So what do you think lovelies? Do you agree or disagree? Have any thoughts? Let’s have a discussion! Leave a comment!
Tag 10 others to take part (I’ll just leave this up to whoever wants to do it)
ENJOY THE TAG!
A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
This book was recommended by my friend Yvana since we were in high school. It was the first book that we had a conversation on. She urged me to read it. I want to read it, truly, but I could never find the book in any bookstores at that time until I, unfortunately, forgot about it until now.
If I could not find it in any bookstores might as well purchase the ebook version.
A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
In all of John Green’s book, this is only the TBR I could not read, yet. My friends who had read this book had recommended me this and told me to read it but Alas! I really could not. I don’t know why.
A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing yet
The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Micheal Scott. The reason why I couldn’t finish this series is that I COULDN’T FIND THE PHYSICAL COPY IN ANY BOOKS STORES!!!! I really want to complete this series by buying the actual physical copy.
P.S. LOOK AT THE COVERS AIN’T THEY LOOK FANTASTIC???!!!
A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read
I only heard this beautiful classic a year ago when Anya-Taylor Joy played as Emma in a 2020 film adaptation of Emma directed by Autumn de Wilde. This film is straight out of a painting. This film is truly a masterpiece. Every scene is such a vision. The movie made me want to read this book as well all Jane Austen’s books. Looking forward to reading it all.
A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
Everyone. I mean every one of my friends had read this series. (ALSO THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS SERIES! Oh my…) I must admit I wasn’t into greek mythology thingy back then BUT thanks to Tumblr I am now and my few of my friends keeping me recommend this book. I’m planning to buy PJO series. Hope to buy it sooner.
Also congratulations to fans of this series. There’s a confirmation that this will be a full series under Disney! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
Oh, I truly love this movie. It’s so heartwarming and incredibly inspiring. Choose to be kind.
I also love this film. A perfect film about coming of age. This movie is so scenic. Such a vision.
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
